The TV Blog

I admit it: I LOVE TV. I could happily spend hours and days doing nothing but sit in front of the tv. Ok, I say "I could spend" when I actually should have said "I have spent." While some, my boyfriend included, think this is a horrible waste of time (because, you know, playing Guitar Hero for hours on end isn't), I disagree whole-heartedly. I like to think of tv as more of a hobby.

Mirriam-Webster defines a hobby as "a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation." What could be more relaxing than sitting on the couch watching tv with a dog curled up at your feet? I never understood people whose hobbies include hiking, rock-climbing, working out or other such physical activities. I personally don't find it relaxing at all to cling for dear life to the side of a mountain. Even camping is stretching it. Clearly, I hold the outdoors in contempt. Nope, tv is for me.

All of that being said, you might be wondering what it is that I can watch on tv for hours and days at a time. Allow me to share with you my never-miss shows. These are the ones I set the DVR for, even though I'll probably be home to watch it. You just never know when something might come up!

Monday:
Heroes on NBC. This show really disappointed me this season, but I still have high hopes.

Tuesday:
Reruns of The Office on TBS. That's right. I set the DVR for reruns. That's how much I love this show.

Wednesday:
Pushing Daisies on ABC. This is my favorite new show of the season. It's visually beautiful, very original and the star is from Spring. And Kristin Chenowith spontaneously bursts into song! How can you not love it??
Depending on the time of year, I then record any number of Bravo shows. That Bravo sucks me in every time! There's Project Runway, Top Chef, Top Design, and even that awful one about hair stylists. And, of course, anything with Kathy Griffin will get me watching!

Thursday:
This is a big night for me. First, I have choir practice on Thursdays, so I basically have to record everything I want to watch. Second, the DVR can only record two things at a time, so I've had to give up some of my shows in order to keep others. So, no more Ugly Betty or Grey's Anatomy.
There's Survivor, CSI, 30 Rock, The Office, and Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. (On a side note, I would like to say that Tim Gunn is a genius and I want him to be my friend.)

Friday-Sunday:
There is usually nothing so pressing that it needs to be recorded, so I use this time to catch up on my Thursday night tv.

Anytime:
I will watch Family Guy, Futurama (but not The Simpsons, oddly enough), South Park, Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Seinfeld (best show on television EVER), Mythbusters (maybe the nerdiest show I watch), The Golden Girls (yes, I can't help it), and any number of pop culture shows (ok, also nerdy, but in a totally different way) on VH1 or Bravo at any time. (I think this blog entry is the most I've ever used parentheses in my life.)

So, this has been quite the long blog, but it is the only way to express my love of tv! There will probably be blogs of equal or greater length done on music and movies in the near future. What can I say? I'm a geek for pop culture!

Cool blogs

I thought that I would share some blogs that I thought were cool. Some run from this very site!

I love modern decor, but don't have the guts (or the money!) to actually do my house with any of this stuff, but it's fun to look at:
Blue Decor
Another Shade of Grey
More Ways to Waste Time

I'm sure at least some of you have heard of PostSecret, but it's a cool sort of project where people are invited to send anonymous postcards with their secrets on them. There have been a few books with them and some were included in the video "Dirty Little Secret" by All-American Rejects. Anyway, I just think it's a cool idea.

Along the same vane as PostSecret, is the To-Do List Blog. As you would imagine, it's a bunch of peoples' to-do lists, with items like "Be Positive!" and "Buy Cowboy Hat," it can be pretty entertaining.

And another cool time-waster: Crazy Topics.

I think it's cool to look at these sites and realize what can be done with a blog. It could be like this one- an online journal of sorts- or it could be a way to share ideas, thoughts and even products with the world.

First Post!

Ok, here is my first post on my new blog! Very exciting, no?

MySpace used to be my time-waster of choice, but I haven't really put in any quality MySpace time in a long while. I just hope this blog doesn't rule my life the way MySpace used to!

I'm not really sure what I'll be posting here yet, so we might be figuring that out together- so sorry!
